Ana Guiulfo – Ana G

The Confessions series is designed to introduce a successful woman. Regardless of her age, race, religion, class, ethnicity, or wealth; just a successful woman with her own definition of success. From a young entrepreneur to a mature woman with a blissful career, all of them are role models.

I met Ana in Miami through a mutual friend.  We became very good friends since the beginning as we shared a very similar view on what is important in life, our values.  Ana has a self confidence that should be the norm in every woman.  This is what makes her outperform in a difficult environment as the fashion business.  Whereas others are focusing on the problem, Ana is already thinking about the solution, that is the key for her success, as a professional, and as a wife and mother.

Ana:

I started as a designer in 2003 with  Jack Abugattas, who invited me to share his runway show.  I always considered him my mentor.  Then we opened a boutique named ROJO 🍅 TOMATE .  Before, I used to make uniforms for companies (banks and hotels) and I made alpaca jackets for export.  I studied Business Administration in  Universidad de Lima.  I am a self taught designer and an artist at heart.  Ana G  started in Miami  (Coconut Grove) in  2007.  It was a very interesting and rich experience.  I am back in Peru where I continue working on my brand. ,

What early life events have influenced your view of wealth?

During my childhood I always felt pretty secure financially, what I really remember is the sentaron of having a family structure, which gave me security.  I don’t remember any money issues.  My memories or money are just related to particular events like when my father got a new car, or my parents where coming back from a trip and I went to greet them at the airport with flower.  Years later, my father lost his business during the military government.  This was a terrible stage for our country and Velasco Alvarado de facto government took the country back in time.  We were 30 apart from the rest of the world.

What role does work play in your life?

For me my work is my passion, is to be in touch with beauty, is to propose and communicate, is to give yourself to sensations.  It plays a very important role in my life, I enjoy it fully and I share it with my family as I asked for their opinion and and share with them my achievements.

If you could solve any problem, what would it be?

I have the advantage of being able to decide what I want very easily.  Mi mind is very practical and I go direct to the point.  I also have the ability to put myself on the other side of the table and see things from others’ perspective.

What have been non-financial influences on your efforts to build wealth?

I studied business, so when I decided to go into design I took courses in how to do a collection, pattern development, embroideries.  I always visit art galleries and museums as well as designer stores, to get inspiration and check out new cuts and finishings.  I started to paint my own fabrics in order to differentiate myself from the rest, and this is a process I really enjoy.  Is a big risk as it is not easy to enter the market with your own prints, some people consider it too aggressive, so it was very difficult at the beginning.  However now they look forward to my new prints and is easily what sells the best..

What do you most enjoy in terms of spending?

To buy materials that I can transform in my own creations.  Fabrics, paintings, is what I really enjoy buying, and sometimes I cannot stop doing it.

What can money not buy?

Money do not buy health nor life.  Of course it helps to find a good doctor.  Money dones buy elegance, specially elegance of the soul.

My wealth makes me feel…..

Money gives me wellness and tranquility.

What part has your gender played in the development of your wealth?

I am not sure if gender is an important variable in the development of wealth.  I believe it depends more on talent and focus so we can find our true calling and enjoy it.

What does wealth give you the freedom to do?

Money gives you the possibility to do what you want with your freedom.  It also gives you time to find yourself and gives you a structure to do it.  It also allows you to travel and know more about other cultures.  It opens possibilities and is a great tool for networking.
